Websites

This “Website” section of my portfolio is all about the online homes I have built and designed. It’s a key part of what I do. I’m Usman Jatoi, and my journey in creating websites began early, even though I didn’t start with pure coding.

I was born on April 18, 2006, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. My family moved back to Khanpur District, Pakistan, when I was two years old. My interest in the digital world began when I was just seven, and by twelve, I was already working professionally. Making websites has become a big part of that professional work.

My First Steps into Website Building

When I was young, I was eager to learn many digital skills, including coding. But I soon realized that spending my whole life just coding wasn’t what I truly wanted to do. However, this early exposure gave me a basic understanding of how websites are put together.

Then, in late 2019, I started learning graphic design. This was a big step for me because it’s where I learned about visual design and how things should look. This skill was very important for making good websites. I learned to design how websites should look and feel, which is called UI/UX design.

In 2020, I spent a full year learning 3D modeling. While this might not seem directly related to website building, it helped me think about layouts and visual elements in a new way, which I could use when designing websites.

Building My Own Website: Redsglow

A very important part of my journey in website building was creating my own agency, Redsglow. I needed a website for Redsglow to show my work and get new projects. I first built Redsglow’s website using coding. This took over a month. It was a lot of detailed work, making sure every line of code was correct.

But then, I realized that for what I wanted to do with Redsglow, WordPress would be a better tool. So, I decided to rebuild the entire site from scratch using WordPress. This was a big decision, but it taught me a lot about WordPress website development. This rebuilding process by myself took over two months. It was a huge learning experience and a big part of my website building portfolio. It showed me that sometimes you need to change your approach to get the best result.

I first built Redsglow’s website using coding, which took over a month. But I soon realized that WordPress would be better for what I wanted to do, so I rebuilt the entire site from scratch. This process also taught me how to build websites using WordPress. Building the website by myself took me over two months.

Building Websites at Pearl Lemon

A major part of my website experience comes from my time at Pearl Lemon Group, a company based in the UK. I joined when I was only 16 years old. I started as a web designer, and my very first task was to redesign pearllemonweb.com. I managed to do it in just three days. This was a challenging but rewarding project, and it showed my ability to work quickly and deliver results.

Over the next few months, I worked on many bigger website projects for Pearl Lemon. I was given the task of redesigning and building many of their websites from scratch. This included sites like Pearl Lemon Cafe, Pearl Lemon Boba, Win on Upwork, Pearl Lemon Catering, and others.

Each of these website builds and redesigns are key pieces in my portfolio, showing my ability to handle different kinds of web projects, from simple landing pages to more complex sites.

My role at Pearl Lemon grew quickly. I became Head of Website Design, leading a team of designers. This meant I was not just building websites myself, but also guiding others in building good websites. This added a layer of leadership and project management to my website work.

What You'll Find in My Website Portfolio

My website portfolio shows a wide range of projects and my skills in making online homes for businesses and ideas. I have worked on:

  • Web Design and Development: I have worked on over 190 websites. This means I’ve built ones that look good and work well for people using them. I focus on how they feel to use (UI/UX design). I make websites using platforms like WordPress and Shopify. I also build simple landing pages and special custom websites when needed. I have also been responsible for managing around 170 live websites, making sure they run smoothly.
  • Website Redesigns: I have taken old websites and given them a fresh, modern look and better function, as I did with pearllemonweb.com and many others for Pearl Lemon.
  • E-commerce Websites: I have experience building online stores, like the Coachdesign Canadian e-commerce quilt website. This involves setting up product pages, shopping carts, and payment systems.

  • Custom Features: I’ve built over 1,000 small converter plugins, which are like little tools that add specific functions to websites. I am also currently working on a custom flight booking plugin, which is a complex piece of website development.
  • Website Automation: I have used tools like Python to automate parts of website creation, having put out over 700 pages using custom automation. This means I can create many website pages quickly and efficiently.
  • Website Maintenance and Management: Beyond building, I also understand what it takes to keep websites running well, having managed many live sites.

I have worked on websites for a variety of clients like Pearl Lemon, Advanced Income Marketing, Coachdesign (a Canadian e-commerce quilt website), MetaverseDeviser, and Usama 2.0 with many NGOs. Each website project taught me something new and added to my skills.

Challenges in Website Building and My Future Plans

Building websites is not always easy. I’ve faced problems like needing to rebuild my own Redsglow website entirely, which took extra time and effort. I also remember the stress of accidentally crashing the main Pearl Lemon website. These experiences, though tough, taught me how to handle problems and how important it is to be careful. They also showed me that learning is a continuous process.

Looking ahead, my journey in website creation continues. I am always learning new things in web development and design. I am always working on something bigger, including my own custom software and future startups that will need strong online homes. I want to manage over 1000 websites with a small team and a small budget, and I am always looking for ways to build websites more easily and at a lower cost. My work in websites will keep growing as I stay up to date with the newest tools and technologies. This collection of website projects shows what I’ve learned, what I’ve built, and what I can do for online presence.
